Canton Police Believe 20-year Old's Death A Suicide

(Canton, IL) -- Authorities in Canton say they believe that a 20-year old Canton man hanged himself after a domestic situation with his girlfriend last week. Kolton Hamm was found by his step-father Friday morning at just before 10. Earlier in the morning on Friday, police say that Hamm and his girlfriend were involved in a disturbance. Hamm then later allegedly hanged himself. After finding Hamm, his step-father called 9-1-1. The autopsy performed on Saturday revealed that he died from asphyxiation, although authorities are waiting on the toxicology reports, which will take several weeks before they are returned for a final determination on the cause of death. Canton police say they are continuing to follow leads that they have and the investigation will remain open until a final report is filed.
