Former Senator Dixon Dies
(Fairview Heights, IL) -- Former U.S. Senator Alan Dixon died Sunday at the age of 86. He served in the Senate for two terms from 1981 to 1993. While in the Senate, he became the third-ranking Democrat and was known for his ability to get along with other politicians. Dixon is being remembered by other Illinois politicians. Senator Dick Durbin says Dixon was known for his honesty and hard work. Governor Pat Quinn says Dixon did what was best for Illinois and the nation. Before being elected to the Senate, Dixon served in the Illinois House and Senate and as the state's treasurer and secretary of state. Dixon, who would have turned 87 today, is survived by his wife and three children.
