(Peoria, IL) -- A portion of I-74 in downtown Peoria is being renamed to honor former U.S. Congressman and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. Governor Pat Quinn calls LaHood one of Illinois' favorite sons. He played a key role in securing hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars in federal monies to improve Illinois' transportation systems. LaHood is from Peoria. He served as a Congressman for the 18th District from 1995 to 2009 and as Transportation Secretary from 2009 until 2013.
