(Lewistown, IL)  --  Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting a Geology Tour of the Illinois River Valley as part of the Nature Track series this weekend.  It will be led by Museum staff and participants will explore the Illinois River Valley and learn about its history. The tour will begin by exploring a 290-320 million-year old sandstone outrcrop, testimony of Illinois' marine past and then consider the impacts of a series of Ice Age events that shaped the present day landscape.  Participants will receive a field guide for the trip and must provide their own transportation.  Meet at the Museum promptly at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 22nd.  The group will then caravan to a variety of locations within 10 miles of the museum. The program is free and registration is not required.  Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors. Dickson Mounds Museum is located along Illinois Route 78 and Illinois Route 100 between Lewistown and Havana.
