FDA Revises Fish Consumption Guidelines

(Washington, DC)  --  The FDA says pregnant women and young children should eat more fish that's lower in mercury.  Previously, both the Food and Drug Administration and the EPA had recommended limiting or avoiding seafood during pregnancy and early childhood.  The updated advice being released today in a draft cites the overall health benefits of eating fish such as cod, salmon, tilapia and canned light tuna.  The public will be allowed to weigh in on the proposed change before the FDA issues its final advice.
