(Lewistown, IL)  --  Earth Day is a time when energy is channeled into creating a clean, healthy environment for future generations.  Ingredion, Incorporated contacted the University of Illinois Extension and wanted to support 4-H in an Earth Day project.  Ingredion staff volunteers, 4-H members, residents of the Columbia Terrace North Neighborhood and University of Illinois Master Gardners worked together in a project at Peoria's Day Spring Park.  Master Gardener Intern David Mills volunteered to help residents wiht plant selection and gardening guidance.  He soon discovered he was truly fulfilling the Master Gardner motto of "helping Others Learn to Grow".  The corporation of business with community volunteers, 4-H members and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners resulted in a successful collaboration and multiple positive impacts.  For more infromation about the University of Illinois Master Gardener program or for a program or presentation to your group, contact University of Illinois Extensionh program coordinator Julia Pryor at jpryor@illinois.edu or call 1-309-543-3308.
