Democrats Far Off On Tax Vote

(Springfield, IL) -- Democrats are more than two-dozen votes short of keeping the five-percent income tax rate in place. House Speaker Michael Madigan says only 34 Democratic state representatives are on-board with the plan. They need 60 to make the rate permanent. Lawmakers were counting on the tax being made permanent so they wouldn't lose the billions-of-dollars that it brings in each year. But without the vote, it's back to the drawing board on drafting a budget and getting it passed by May 31st.
