Smoke At Radar Site Halts O'Hare, Midway Flights
(Chicago, IL) -- Firefighters found the source of the smoke at an Elgin radar facility that caused a ground halt for all flights going into and out of O'Hare and Midway airports yesterday morning. A faulty motor on an air conditioning unit was to blame for the ground halt. After being evacuated for about ninety minutes, workers at the TRACON facility were allowed back into the building, and the flight schedule then got back to normal. Delays caused by the ground stop lingered throughout the day, however.
