(Springfield, IL) -- Boating season is quickly approaching and state officials are giving people a chance to get their boats inspected for free. Conservation officers will be out this Friday to give the boats a good look over before they hit the water. That's Chris Young with the Department of Natural Resources. He says boat owners are also required to have a life jacket available for each person on board. Boat season officially kicks off on Memorial Day, May 26th. There will be inspections in every area of the state including Chicago, Spring Grove, Rock Island, Clinton, Springfield, and Murphysboro.
